What is Walt in Telegram and what happened to Telegram Wallet

Telegram Wallet was renamed Walt. In plain words: what this wallet is, what you can do with it, how it differs from Gram Wallet and whether it's safe.

What is Walt in Telegram and what happened to Telegram Wallet

If you opened Telegram recently and couldn’t find the usual Wallet, don’t worry, it didn’t disappear. On September 28, 2026, “Wallet in Telegram” was renamed Walt. Your money, history and addresses are all still there, and you don’t need to move anything.

What is Walt

Walt is a crypto wallet and a mini exchange right inside Telegram. It works as a mini app: open the bot and you can buy, sell and store crypto straight away. You’ll find it under the username @walt.

What it offers right now (according to the service itself):

  • trading in more than 200 crypto assets;
  • storage and transfers for over 300 assets on four blockchains;
  • Earn — interest on stablecoins, Gram, Tether Gold (XAUT), Solana, Ethereum and Tron;
  • tokenized stocks, ETFs and metals;
  • futures on more than 70 assets.

A crypto card is also promised, but there’s no launch date yet. And inside Telegram, Gram is what you use to buy Stars and NFT gifts.

How Walt differs from Gram Wallet

This is where most people get confused. Along with the rename, Telegram launched its own wallet, Gram Wallet. So now there are two, and they’re different things:

  • Walt works like an exchange: the company holds the keys to your wallet. It’s convenient — forget your password and support can help you recover access. But they also partly control your money.
  • Gram Wallet is a wallet where you hold the keys (the seed phrase). It’s built for everyday things inside Telegram: gifts, Stars, payments. Gram (GRAM) is the new name of what used to be Toncoin — more in the article about Gram and TON.

Walt is made by a company called The Open Platform, not by Telegram itself. Gram Wallet is Telegram’s own wallet.

Is Walt safe to use

Walt isn’t some new unknown project, it’s the same Telegram Wallet that millions of people have used. But a few things matter:

  • There’s only one official bot — @walt. Don’t fall for “migrations”, “wallet updates” or “account confirmations” sent through links in private messages. Scammers love using rebrands for exactly this.
  • Support never messages you first and never asks for SMS codes.
  • Large amounts you plan to hold for a long time are better kept where you hold the keys. More on that in the article about hot and cold wallets.
  • According to reviews, the service isn’t available everywhere: there are restrictions in the US, the UK and some EU countries.

Why use it at all

In short: to quickly buy or sell crypto without leaving Telegram, and to take part in promos. For example, Walt is currently running a giveaway with an $8000 pool. And when you want to cash out, here’s how to withdraw money from Walt: to a card, via P2P or to an exchange.
